Speaking of Freedom:The Nature of the Battle (repost)

In America today most people tend to look at and to politics and politicians as either the problem or the solution. In truth, though, the nature of our struggles is spiritual. The Apostle Paul points this out in Ephesians 6:12;
"For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places."
In other words, the devil is real, he is the ruler of this world, (John 12:31: 14:30; 16:11), and it is he and his minions that oppose us.

Because this is true, and because it is also true that America was founded upon Christianity, Americans are being constantly pressured by the enemy of our souls to compromise the standards of God and capitulate to sin and corruption. This has always been the case, but today as never before, we are seeing that these pressures are real and that they are having an effect. This past election offers many examples of the way this spiritual warfare is playing out in America today. Here are just 2:

Up until this year, every time the issue of same sex marriage had been placed on the ballot, it had been rejected. This year voters in 4 states came down in favor.

Voters in 2 states passed measures legalizing the use of marijuana for "recreational" purposes.

As the Founders often stated, this nation was founded upon the twin pillars of morality and Christianity. Obviously, this foundation is crumbling before our very eyes. If America is to survive and prosper again, biblical morality must first be restored. This won't come via decree or legislation from Washington. It must be a grassroots, bottom up movement. And that can only happen by a powerful movement of the Holy Spirit as we, His people, repent and pray.

Those who oppose us fight hard. They do so because they have no hope of anything better than this world to look forward to. But we have the certain hope of eternal life in paradise, a hope more powerful than the devil and all his minions.As I see it, the work of the patriot is to offer this hope to the world. What better time than this Christmas season to recommit ourselves to doing just that!
