Speaking of Freedom:Framing the Constitution

Hot-Summer Greetings, Patriots,

The weather we've been enduring makes me think of another hot summer about which I have read, the summer of 1787. For most of 4 months that year, from late May into September, a handful of America's Founding Fathers were sequestered in a hot room, with the windows closed, no less, so no one could eaves drop as they deliberated the direction the infant nation would take. In spite of the heat and against all odds, the "Framers" persevered and the document they produced, the United States Constitution, would soon begin to change the world for the better.

But before that Constitution could become the law of the land, the sovereigns of the new nation, the people, had to vote on it. In the months that followed a robust national discussion and debate was held. The Federalist Papers were written during this time in which James Madison, Alexander Hamilton and John Jay made a case for ratification. Their arguments eventually prevailed and the Constitution became the law of the land in 1789.

Today our beloved country is in jeopardy of being destroyed from within by the failure of our government to be governed by that same Constitution. So, what are we to to do about it? I have a suggestion.

Thomas Jefferson said, " Educate and inform the whole mass of the people... They are the only sure reliance for the preservation of our liberty." Consistent with Jefferson's statement and the stated purpose of MCP, and following in the footsteps of Madison, Hamilton and Jay, we can and must become modern-day "framers". Only this time our job is not to create the document but restore it to its proper place as the "supreme law of the land". We can help to do that by educating others. By "framing" every discussion we have in the context of the Constitution. Whatever topic might initiate a discussion or debate, we can and must always bring it back to the Constitution.

So, as I see it, our mission is clear. I've already had opportunities to do this. You probably have, too. And it has gone well. I have found that when I argue for the Constitution, people agree with what I have to say. In November, we the people will vote again and hopefully, these efforts will translate to votes for the Constitution.

Although I can't say for sure that I've made any "converts" yet, I have resolved that I will try to reach as many as I can in the time remaining. I invite you to resolve the same. In the near future I plan to share some thoughts, ideas and experiences with you as they arise, in the hope they will serve to encourage and assist us all as we go about this important work. I hope you will share yours, too. God bless you as you strive to carry out our mission. And may God bless America once again.

July 11th - Register to Vote

Tomorrow is the last day to register to vote.
One of the most common questions I hear is, "What can I do to make a difference?" This one simple step can make a huge impact on getting our state & country turned back around. Every single vote counts and as David Barton said, "If you don't vote in the primaries our choices in the general election is often between bad and worse. Voting in the primaries helps good candidates move forward so that they can be there in the general election."
Please reach out and make sure those you know are registered. Take one extra step and go to Champion the Vote and find those in your community who are not yet registered to vote.

Speaking of Freedom:In Dependence Day

Greetings Patriots,

As I was reflecting on Independence Day and what it all means I had a bit of a new way of looking at it that I wanted to pass along, for whatever it might be worth. Here it is: In the Declaration of Independence the signers declared "a firm reliance on Divine Providence". You might say that, as they were declaring their independence from Great Britain, they were at the same time declaring themselves "in dependence" on God.

Ronald Reagan similarly said, "If we ever forget that we are one nation under God, we will be a nation gone under." In other words, our freedom and prosperity hinges upon our being "in dependence" on God.

For 65 years America has been engaged in an experiment in godlessness that has brought us to the brink of utter ruin.  If our beloved nation is to be saved she must once again be "in dependence" on God. May we each do all that we can to bring that about. God bless you and God bless America and have a wonderful Independence Day.
